SOCKETWELD FLANGE

Ideal for smaller pipe diameters in low-temperature and low-pressure scenarios, socket-weld flanges feature a connection in which you place the pipe into the flange and then secure the connection with a single multi-pass fillet weld. This makes this style simpler to install than other welded flange types while avoiding the limitations associated with threaded ends. It has a recessed area in the flange bore, this shoulder serves as a guide to set the depth of the pipe that is inserted to the flange. Socket welding flange initially designed for high pressure small diameters piping system. Flange with Socket Weld is very similar to slip-on flanges but has 50% greater fatigue strength. To ensure proper bore dimension, space is created between the flange and the pipe. Socket weld flanges have a socket in which a pipe is inserted; the pipe is secured by one fillet weld located on the exterior of the flange hub.

Socket weld flanges are designed for small nominal pipe sizes  and are common for ½ to 2-inch pipe sizes. The mechanical strength of a socket weld flange is similar to that of a slip-on flange, but the slip-on flange may use two welds. Their static strength is equal to Slip On flanges, but their fatigue strength 50% greater than double-welded Slip On flanges. The connection with the pipe is done with 1 fillet weld, at the outside of the flange. But before welding, a space must be created between flange or fitting and pipe. Several advantages of socket weld flanges include the fact that they do not require weld preparation, have lower construction costs, and cannot penetrate the bore of the flange.
